The evolution of the alfalfa mixture: Alfa Mix

The new Tecnozoo alfalfa mixture

This alfalfa mixture made its debut in 2021, winning over a wide audience of customers. It was developed by Tecnozoo agronomists to meet the needs of every farmer, even in recent years marked by unfavorable climatic conditions for optimal sowing and harvesting periods.

Two Vicenza alfalfa varieties, originating from the Berici Hills, rustic environments characterized by limited water availability and medium-loose soils.

1st Variety

Robust alfalfa

Medium–tall, with a thin, hollow stem; extremely high leafiness and ovate-shaped leaves. A highly rustic plant that adapts surprisingly well to any type of soil.

2nd Variety

A more modern concept of alfalfa

Solid and very thin stem; extremely high regrowth capacity,
suitable for medium-textured soils tending toward clay.

  • Adapts to all types of soil.
  • Competition between two varieties of the same species enhances quantitative performance.
  • A 3–5 day difference in flowering time allows a wide harvesting window.
  • The two different stems (hollow and solid, tall and short but both very thin) ensure an excellent fiber/protein ratio.
  • The shorter variety provides a mechanical scaffolding effect.
  • Very high regrowth speed (on average allows one additional cut).

Thanks to the presence of two different types of alfalfa, the Alfa Mix alfalfa mixture proves to be much more productive than a pure seed (a feature resulting from the natural competition that develops between two varieties of the same species).

Slightly different flowering times allow for wider cutting periods and help maintain a consistently fresh product with excellent analytical values.

The phenotypic diversity of the two varieties (large, rounded leaf with thin hollow stem and ovate leaf with thin solid stem) enhances fiber/protein ratios and increases resistance to lodging, trampling, and repeated cutting.

This alfalfa mixture is very long-lasting and guarantees a high regrowth capacity.
