Acidifying the diet in the swine sector is a common practice.
Organic acids, by lowering the pH of the diet, promote protein digestion, discourage the proliferation of potential pathogens introduced with the feed, act as preservatives, and—by acidifying the feed bolus—stimulate the proliferation of beneficial bacteria at the intestinal level.
